From the humblest beginnings imaginable to a success story of expansive proportions, the Ohringer’s unwavering dedication to family and a successful business makes their story a tale of the true American dream. Arriving from Eastern Europe with $10 in his pocket, Abe Ohringer set off down a path to success. That success allowed he and his wife Helen to become philanthropists and dedicated supporters of their community.

The Ohringer Home Furniture Company building is the sole remaining reminder of the empire that Abe and Helen Ohringer began in Braddock, Pa. That building, completed in 1941, was at the time the tallest in Braddock, and with its enormous 58-foot-tall neon sign became the beacon of Braddock. The building was used as the furniture store until 1964 when the business closed.

This book is the culmination of over three years of research and photographing The Ohringer. Featuring many historic family photos, it is the story of the Ohringer family’s Braddock roots, my photographs of the transition of the building, and the results: an award-winning testament to the durability of dreams...
